Special guest speaker Carey Thompson taught the Georgiana Garden Club how to turn trash into treasures at its February meeting.

Thompson also informed the club of important information on fertilizing pecan trees as well as showing the club how to make a “whirlie bird” for the yard and flowers from different size cans.

Thompson gave a “whirlie bird” as a door prize and gave the club a large red cedar bird and squirrel feeder for the entrance of the log cabin where the club meets.

Each member of the club also brought two Valentines to be sent to Veterans at the VA Hospital in Montgomery.

Litter Chairman Sandra Jones reported that she would be talking with the city about a “city-wide litter clean up” for March 31.

Ernie Scruggs, butterfly chairman, announced the “Butterfly Contest” for grades one through five that will be on March 1.

President Suzy Shepherd gave an update on her son’s health.

She said that UAB doctors were very disappointed that the radiation had not killed the tumor, and he will go back in March for another MRI.

Annette Tunnell announced that Jimmy Evans and Friends will be having a B.Q. plate lunch benefit for Chuck March 3 at the cabin.

The club members will help in baking cakes, baked beans and sell tickets for plate and 32” Emerson T.V. to be given away on March 3.
