Friendship African Methodist Episcopal Church in Greenville is getting some visitors from Massachusetts this weekend.

On Friday, The Lord’s Builders, as they call themselves, will be traveling from Millbury Federated Church in Millbury, Mass., to Greenville.

Charles Watters is the electrician and safety officer for MFC and part of the travel-planning group. He said the group will be putting on the roof of the Friendship African Methodist Episcopal Church as taking care of some electrical aspects.

In 1994, Millbury Federated Church men’s prayer group decided to take action and create a mission to assist in rebuilding the churches in southern states.

Watters said the team is made of 29 men and women ranging in ages from 13 to late 60s that will be coming down to work with anyone in the community interested in helping out.

“We picked Greenville after we all saw what churches are at a point that we can help them, and after we have that list, we all pray about where God would like us to go,” Watters said.

Other cities in Alabama the group has traveled to include Hayneville, Little River, Selma and Opelika.

“I believe it is important for people to know about this trip to spread the word about the needs of our neighbor no matter how big or small near or far,” Watters said. “God calls us to help or brothers and sisters no matter what the need.”

The trips are fully funded by fundraisers and donations through the church.

“There is so much need in the world today,” Watters said.

“We are blessed to be in a position to take advantage of an opportunity to be able to help others less fortunate. If you can help, we are sincerely grateful.”
