Rike shares message of hope

Abby Rike knows a thing or two about loss.

As a contestant on NBC’s hit show “The Biggest Loser,” Rike lost 100 pounds.

But Rike also knows about a different kind of loss.

In October of 2006, she lost her husband, her daughter and son in a fatal car crash.

On Feb. 18, Rike will share her story as the keynote speaker at a first anniversary celebration for Healthy Woman.

“She is a living example that even in your darkest hour, there is always hope,” a press release from Healthy Woman stated.

Following the wreck, Rike graduated with a Master’s of Education degree maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.  Currently she is taking her message of hope to businesses, schools, churches, grief groups, and health and wellness communities as a motivational speaker hoping to inspire them in the same manner she did her students.

Along with speaking at the anniversary dinner, Rike will also take part in a 5K run that will begin at at L.V. Stabler Physical Therapy building at 8 a.m. The fee to register for the run is $20, which will include a T-shirt. There is also an application individuals will have to fill out.

At 4 p.m. Healthy Woman will hold a health fair and women’s expo at FBC, which will be following by the dinner at 6 p.m. Rike will speak at 7 p.m. The tickets for the dinner and the speaker are $20.
