A private, family graveside service will be held at a later time.

In addition to serving as a longstanding member of the Alabama Senate for 28 years, Mitchell also served as a member of the Faulkner Board of Trustees since 1970 and was Dean Emeritus of Faulkner’s Jones School of Law where he also served as a beloved professor of law.

Mitchell assisted with Faulkner’s acquisition of Jones School of Law in 1983 and was instrumental in its subsequent ABA accreditation, providing the capital city with the third accredited law school in the state.

“Wendell Mitchell was the law school’s biggest supporter,” Nelson said. “He was enthusiastic about the progress of the Law School and constantly wanted to do everything he could to ensure that we became the best we could be.”

The family will accept flowers or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Agape of Alabama or the Vaughn Park Church of Christ Family Care Ministry.
