Fort Dale Academy senior Cam Norman scored 24 points to help lift No. 9 Fort Dale to a 46-41 overtime win against area-rival Pike Liberal Arts School Tuesday night in Troy.

Norman did the majority of his damage from beyond the arc. He hit eight 3-point baskets to set a new school record for 3-point baskets in a game, eclipsing the previous mark of six.

“Cam really kept us in the game,” Fort Dale head coach Reggie Mantooth said.  “We struggled all night to get the ball inside and to execute any offense.  Cam hit some big threes and carried us on offense.  It is a big honor to break that record and I am proud of him.”

The Fort Dale senior was 8-for-13 from behind the 3-point line and 8-for-14 from the field. Norman also had a key assist in the win. In the extra period with the game tied at 39, Norman slipped a pass to Wesley Scott who scored his only basket of the game to give the Eagles a two-point lead with 1:10 remaining to play.

Tyler Millo connected on a pair of free throws with 48.5 seconds left to extend the lead to four points, but the Patriots weren’t quite ready to call it a game. With 41.8 seconds remaining the Patriots added two free throws of their own to cut the lead to 43-41. Millo then hit three more free throws in the remaining seconds to seal the win for the Eagles (15-4, 6-0), who remain unbeaten in area play.

Millo finished the game with nine points on the strength of a 5-for-6 performance from the free-throw line. Chip Taylor added eight points and Jack Bates chipped in three points for the Eagles, who squeaked out the win despite shooting just 28 percent from the field and attempting just 11 free throws.

“It was a good win for our boys,” Mantooth said. “We didn’t play well but were able to hang in and get a win.”
