American Apparel, Inc. announced Monday that it is closing its Fort Deposit plant.

The Fort Deposit location will be consolidated with the company’s Selma plant. A reduction in opportunities in the military market was the reason given for the closing, which is expected to be completed by May 31.

Approximately 175 jobs in Fort Deposit will be impacted by the closing.

According to American Apparel, as positions become available, Fort Deposit employees will be offered the opportunity to transfer to Selma.
