Chamber Banquet set for Jan. 26

The Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce Member Banquet will be held Jan. 26 at the Wendell Mitchell Conference Center on the campus of LBW Community College.
Executive Director Francine Wasden said the event offers Chamber members the opportunity to “come together in a business setting and talk business.” The event will mark the third consecutive year the Chamber has held the banquet after a nearly four-decade hiatus.
“In the past we’ve had our low country boil, which is an outdoor event, and a few years ago we decided it was time to bring the banquet back,” she said. “Each of the last three years we’ve tried to have a good speaker with ties to the area and we always present the award for the Business Leader of the Year. It’s just a great event.”
This year’s speaker will be chief meteorologist for ABC 33/40 James Spann, who is also a regular on the Rick and Bubba Show.
“James still has family in the area, and he even went to school here until the fourth grade, so it will be great to have him here in town and have the opportunity to learn more about what he’s doing and maybe what kind of impact Greenville has had on him,” Wasden said.
Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon will also deliver his State of the City address at the banquet, and the Greenville Area Jaycess will present the John D. Murphy Citizen of the Year Award.
Tickets for the event are $25 and sales will be limited to 250 tickets.
