PHENIX CITY – A bevy of turnovers, coupled with a sluggish shooting performance, proved too much for Fort Dale Academy to overcome Thursday as Deerfield Windsor Academy (Ga.) scored a 49-27 win at the Border Wars Tournament hosted by Glenwood School.

The Lady Eagles (4-8) committed 31 turnovers in the loss, while managing to connect on just 8-of-33 attempts from the field. Fort Dale attempted just one shot from beyond the arc – a miss by Mary Sanford Perdue, who finished with four points.

Deerfield Windsor faired much better on the offensive end of the court. It connected on 19-of-48 attempts, including 6-of-9 shots from beyond the 3-point arc.

Fort Dale’s offensive charge was led by Anne Matthews. She scored eight points and was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Matthews also led the Lady Eagles with three assists.

Barrett Leverette scored six points in the loss.

Katie Cox and Theresa Scott each added three points for the Lady Eagles.

Fort Dale suffered a 48-40 loss to Flint River Academy (Ga.) Wednesday.

Turnovers once again proved costly for Fort Dale. The Lady Eagles committed 25 turnovers in the loss.

Leverette led Fort Dale’s offensive attack with 14 points on the strength of a 5-for-9 shooting performance.

Matthews added 13 points and seven rebounds. She connected on  3-of-7 attempts from the field and 6-of-8 attempts from the free-throw line.

Perdue chipped in five points for the Lady Eagles, while Cox and Nedra Toulmin Crosby each added three points.

Fort Dale will be back in action Tuesday when it hosts Monroe Academy.

Junior varsity action is slated to begin at 4 p.m. with varsity action to follow.
