For those who may not know what to do with a half-dead Christmas tree covered in ornaments, the City of Greenville’s Public Works Department has the answer.

Milton Luckie, Public Works director, said the tree simply needs to be placed at the curb for pickup.

“If they are a residents of the City of Greenville and live in the city limits, it’s free,” Luckie said.  “What we do, we have two trucks that go on the north side of the town and the south side of town. They have a route and it gets run twice a week. It would be picked up within three or four days easily.”

In the past, Luckie said there was a company that used to set up a system that would grind the Christmas trees in different parking lots around town. However, now the Public Works service just asks Greenville residents to put any size tree on the curb and it will pick them up and take it to the landfill.

“It can be dead or still be green,” Luckie said. “(The tree) can even still have decorations on it.”
