Let there be lights

BJ Miner wants to do her part to help brighten everyone’s Christmas.

If the thousands of Christmas lights that fill her yard on Sherwood Court are any indication, she’s doing just that.

“This is my passion,” Miner said. “I love to decorate for Christmas. I love to see children’s faces light up when they come by. It makes me feel like I’ve done something to boost everyone’s Christmas spirit.”

Miner, who moved to Greenville in May from Pembroke Pines, Fla., started decorating her yard nearly a decade ago. Over the years she has collected a number of decorations ranging from giant Christmas ornaments to a Santa in an airplane to a pair of bears paddling a canoe to a group of smiling penguins.

“Some of those I’ve had for years,” she said. “My yard here in Greenville is a little larger than my yard in south Florida, so I had to buy a couple more this year to fill up the yard.”

Miner said it took nearly three weeks of working from early morning until sundown to complete the project, but she said all the hard work has been more than worth it.

“The word is out,” she said. “Everyone is coming out to see it, and hopefully it’s helping brighten their Christmas.”

Miner said she hopes everyone in need of having their Christmas spirits boosted will stop by and enjoy the lights, which remain lit until 1 a.m. each morning.

“I hope everyone will come out and enjoy the lights,” she said.
