Pine Apple Promotions, Inc. is hosting its 16th annual Hunter Appreciation Day Festival on Saturday, Nov. 26.

From 9 a.m.-7 p.m., there will be a Big Buck Contest, an antique car parade, dozens of vendors, arts and crafts and much more.

Joyce Wall, chairman of Hunter Appreciation Day said this festival is just a simple way to say thank you.

“Our group presents this festival every year as an effort say thank you to all the hunters and their families for making pineapple and the surroundings their home and to celebrate the opening of hunting season,” Wall said. “We sponsor family-fun events, wholesome-family events and keep the small town atmosphere.”

The free event will be in the historic town of Pine Apple, Ala.

Hunting contests will be going on throughout the day including the Big Buck Contest. At 7 p.m., prize money will be awarded to the winners of the contest. The hunter who kills the biggest buck that day will receive $500, the women’s division winner will receive $250 and the juvenile division (17 and under) winner will receive $150. The Buckmaster’s scoring system will be used.

“We do have other prizes for sometimes second and third place that are donated that are always really nice prizes,” Wall said.

There is an entry fee of $20 that includes a T-shirt and hunters must register no later than 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25. To register, one can download an application online at pineapplealabana.com, at Pine Apple Grocery or at the BBQ supper at the Moore Academy Gymnasium held Nov. 24 from 5-8 p.m.

At noon, there will be an antique car parade where trophies will be given. There is no entry fee for the parade.

“Anybody that wants to participate in the parade can,” Wall said. “You can enter your antique car and we have trophies for whatever category. If someone just wants to come and bring an ATV, a horse, bicycles or floats or whatever they can ride in the parade, they can.”

The deadline to enter the parade is 10 a.m. at the school that day.

Arts and crafts will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in downtown. Vendors will be selling a variety of items including handmade clothes, homemade food and personalized artwork.

“We have about 12 members, sort of like a chamber for our little town of pineapple,” Wall said. “One-hundred percent of all the monies that we raise goes back into the beautification of Pine Apple. We give all the money back.”

Pine Apple is on Alabama Highway #10, and it’s 20 miles West of Greenville from I-65, exit 128.

“We have some very unique arts and crafts, and it’s a good festival to support because hunting is unbelievable as the economy goes especially in rural areas where the unemployment is so high,” Wall said. “Hunting brings in a lot of money and it’s good support to say thank you.”
