I’m still not quite sure what came over me.

I’d like to think that I’m the kind of person that doesn’t succumb to peer pressure. I like to think of myself as the kind of person who makes up his mind to do something, or not do something, and then sticks to it.

Apparently, I am not.

Friday night I was all too easily convinced to attend the 8^th annual Haunted Firehouse. For weeks, I had sworn that I wouldn’t go, and I meant it. It was nothing against the fine folks at the Haunted Firehouse. I had heard that they do a fantastic job.

That was in fact a big reason why I was so determined to stay the heck away from that place.

You see I’m not really the kind of person that enjoys having the bejeez scared out of me, and I had heard from more than one person that the Haunted Firehouse was terrifying.

But on Friday night, I became the guy that caved under the peer pressure. And if that weren’t bad enough, I then pressured my lovely wife into going with us, who had also vowed not to step foot inside the Haunted Firehouse.

I was a little disappointed with myself at first for being that guy, but in the end I was glad I did it.

I’m not condoning peer pressure in all circumstances, but in this case, I’m glad we gave in and followed the crowd.

It turned out to be a fantastic time. And yes, there were parts of the Haunted Firehouse that were every bit as terrifying as advertised, but it was mostly just a good time with good friends.

So, if you’ve vowed to stay away, I’d encourage you to go.

Not only will you have a good time, but you’ll also you’ll be supporting a good cause. The Greenville Fire Department uses the funds raised from the Haunted Firehouse to help support Muscular Dystrophy Association and families in need that may have been burned out of their houses.

Friday and Saturday night are the final nights of this year’s schedule. The Haunted Firehouse will be open each night from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

You still have one more chance to experience the thrills, spooky chills and squeals at the Firehouse, but you better hurry before the doors close for another year.
