GPRD holds PPK competition

Brandon Haynes claimed first place in the 8-9 year-old division. Haynes threw the ball 66 feet, 7 inches.

The Greenville Parks and Recreation Department sponsored a NFL Punt Pass & Kick competition Saturday at Tiger Stadium.

Twenty-four boys ages 6-15 participated in the event. The NFL Punt, Pass & Kick (PPK) program is a national skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15 to compete separately against their peers. Established in 1961, the PPK program is the oldest NFL Youth Football program.

Local winners advance to sectional competitions.

At Saturday’s competition, Myles Haynes claimed first place in the 14-15 year-old division after totaling 261.3 points.

Caleb Whigham finished second place with 197.8 points and DeMonte Blackmon claimed third place with 114.7 points.

Robert Shufford claimed first place in the 12-13 year-old division.

Shufford totaled 210.9 points.

Winston Sims and Treyvon McClain finished in second and third place, respectively. Sims totaled 202.9 points and McClain totaled 141.8 points.

Javion Posey took first place in the 10-11 year-old division with 230.8 points. Brian Haynes finished in second place with 154.51 points and Javaris McCall finished in third place with 117.2 points.

Brandon Haynes claimed first place in the 8-9 year-old division. Haynes totaled 146.5 points.

Lukevion McCall took second place with 114.5 points and Whitman Sims finished in third place with 80.21 points.

Christian Hill finished in first place in the 6-7 year-old division with 114.7 points.

Shondarias Powell claimed second place with 78.1 points and Garrett Simmons finished in third place with 26.5 points.
