Hooper Academy upset No. 5 Fort Dale Academy 20-7 Friday night in Hope Hull.

“We got physically whipped,” Fort Dale head coach James “Speed” Sampley said.

The Eagles not only suffered a loss on the scoreboard, but on their roster as well.

Fort Dale sophomore quarterback Chip Taylor was taken off the field on a stretcher following a hard hit that left the 5-foot-10, 155-pound signal caller unconscious, according to Sampley. Taylor was however reportedly alert and responsive when he was taken from the stadium to Jackson Hospital in Montgomery where he received a CAT Scan and was later released.

“He’s probably going to be out at least two to three weeks, and we’re going to need (backup quarterback) Cody (Tesmer) to step up,” Sampley said.

After falling behind 12-0, the Eagles fought their way back and drew to within a single score when Tesmer found the endzone on a quarterback sneak.

Junior kicker Patrick Russell’s extra point made it a 12-7 game with 19 seconds to play in the third quarter.

The Colts (4-1) responded by returning the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown and then added the two-point conversion to seal the win.

“We’ve got to learn how to cover a kick,” Sampley said. “That, and learn how to block. We haven’t done a good job of that, but we’re going to go back to work Monday and get better.”

Fort Dale will be back in action Friday when it plays host to Macon-East Academy. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
