Golf tournament ‘makes a difference’

The 6th annual LBWCC/Camellia City Classic was about more than birdies and long drives.
It was about making the difference in the lives of the students who attend LBW Community College.
“This means everything to us and our students,” Dr. Jim Krudop, campus director for LBW’s Greenville campus, said. “This tournament really makes a difference.”
Twenty-two teams participated in the event, which raised approximately $20,000 for the college’s scholarship program.
The tournament, which was played as a four-person scramble, was won by Bubba Walker, Mike Martin, Bert Estes and Chip Hill with a score of 54.
Michael Smith, Ricky Smith, Billy Bimbo and Randy Meeks finished in second place, while Greg Jones, Norris Harris and Leham Tucker claimed third place.
Steve McGee claimed the prize for “longest drive” and Michael Smith won the “closest to the pin” contest.
“We had a couple of shots that came close to being a hole-in-one,” Krudop said. “We were sure hoping to be able to give away a car (as a prize for a hole-in-one). Maybe we can next year.”
The 7th annual LBWCC/Camellia City Classic is scheduled for Sept. 12.
