The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder that took place Wednesday morning in Georgiana.

A domestic dispute has left two Butler County men dead.

According to Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden, Fred Douglas Walton, 61, shot and killed Butler County Correctional Facility employee Willie Hall, 76, at his Rocky Lane residence in Georgiana Wednesday morning at approximately 11 a.m. Walton also assaulted 55-year-old Edna Hall Crenshaw.

“(Walton) entered (Hall’s) house and shot the man, and then beat the woman,” Harden said. “Then he left and went to his residence and shot himself.”

Crenshaw was able to identify Walton as the shooter and when authorities arrived at Walton’s house to attempt to make contact, they found Walton in the front yard of his North Railroad Avenue residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This is still under investigation,” Harden said. “There shouldn’t be a reason why, but it appears to be a domestic dispute that took place.”
