The Greenville Police Department has arrested a nurse practitioner for forging prescriptions.

Amy Hilburn Mills, 37, was charged with possession of a forged instrument and attempting to commit a controlled substance crime after authorities received a tip that a prescription had been filled under a patient’s name without the patient’s knowledge.

Mills, who worked for a doctor’s office in Crenshaw County, came to a Greenville pharmacy and had the prescription filled. Several days later, the patient went to the same pharmacy to have a prescription filled and learned that a prescription he did not posses had been filled under his name.

“The pharmacist was telling him about the interactions between the two medicines, and he told the pharmacist that he didn’t have that prescription,” Lt. Justin Lovvorn said. “That sent up a red flag and he came to see us.”

The GPD pulled video surveillance from the store’s cameras and was able to identify Mills as the person who dropped off and picked up the prescription.

“During the investigation we learned that this was something she had done before in Luverne and no charges had been pressed,” Lovvorn said. “We were able to locate her in Rutledge and brought her in for questioning and she gave us a full statement.”

Investigator Kenneth Hadley assisted in the investigation and handled the questioning of Mills.

According to Lovvorn, Mills was also questioned by officials with the Alabama Board of Nursing.
