A Greenville man was arrested Thursday morning for possession of marijuana following a search by the Second Judicial Task Force.

Thirty-two marijuana plants, valued at $80,000, along with fluorescent lights and fertilizer were confiscated from an Aztec Road residence. Authorities have not yet released the name of the man accused of growing the plants inside his home.

“We got some information about a man growing marijuana in his house, and were able to make contact this morning,” Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden said. “He gave us consent to search his residence and we discovered the plants. He had a pretty good garden going. A lot of people can’t even grow tomato plants outside, and he’s got all of this growing inside.”

Greenville Police Chief Lonzo Ingram praised the efforts of Lt. Byron Russell and the Drug Task Force for taking the drugs off the street.

“Anytime we can get drugs off our streets it’s a good day,” Ingram said. “Drugs are a blot on our community and we’re working hard to get them off our streets. We’re going to continue to go after those who posses, sell, and in this case, grow marijuana.”
