Be Prepared.

Those two simple words sum up Emergency Management Agency Director Shirley Sandy’s message to residents of Butler County.

“Everyone needs to be prepared,” Sandy said.

On Wednesday night, Sandy held a disaster preparedness class at First Assembly of God providing information and tips to those in attendance.

According to Sandy, having a plan in place is key to being prepared for an emergency situation.

“Go ahead and make a plan,” she said. “If something does happen, you don’t want to have to figure things out at the last minute.”

Sandy also encouraged residents to prepare a kit that has a three-day supply of water and non-perishable food. The kit should also include a flashlight and batteries, a blanket and a whistle or air horn.

“It’s important that they be prepared,” Sandy said.

Sandy said it’s also helpful to have a weather radio on hand to receive updates from the National Weather Service on potential weather threats.
