Principal Brad Cook is leaving his position at Greenville High School to return to Lee County, he said in a telephone interview Tuesday.

“Greenville is a great place to live,” Cook said. “And we really felt things were starting to turn around at the high school. But Lee County is home for us and we have a house there that has never sold. It’s put us in something of a financial bind.”

Cook said a job opportunity in Lee County and the fact he has family there, helped him make the decision.

“I appreciate Mr. Cook for his leadership at Greenville High School and wish him the best in the future,” said Darren Douthitt, superintendent of Butler County Schools.

An official announcement of Cook’s resignation is expected in the near future, the superintendent said. The next regular meeting of the Butler County Board of Education is Thursday night.

Cook was named principal at the high school in June 2010 following the departure of Dr. Charles Farmer, who left GHS to accept a position as principal of a new high school in Williamson County, Tenn.

Prior to coming to Greenville, Cook had served as assistant principal at Smiths Station and at Valley.
