Mr. James Purifoy, Funeral services for the late Mr. James Purifoy, a resident of Brooklyn, NY, and a former resident of Greenville, Ala, were held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 1 p.m. from Old Elam Baptist Church. Rev. John McMeans officiated. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery with Hudson Funeral Services of Greenville directing.
The late James Edward Purifoy was born May 30, 1938 to the late Burl and Mary Bell Purifoy. God called him home on April 27, 2011 at 9:10 p.m. at Woodhull Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Ruthie, Lila, Mary, Eloise and Rachel, brothers Nathaniel and Charlie, and two sons Larry and Andre. He met and married Margaret Buskey, a union through which seven children were born. He leaves to cheris his memories a devoted wife Margaret Buskey-Purifot and eight children, Melvin (Sonia), daughter in law, Charles, Pamela (Freddie) Simpson, son in law, James Jr., Toya, Phillipe Lumpkin and Jamel Cherry. Eleven grandchildren, Tahlil, Rahmel, Raleik, Kenya, Satika, Lameya, Odell, Athena, Kamel, Quamel and Sanna, as well as fifteen great grandchildren, sisters Bobbie Pugh and Sharon Bradley, of Greenville, Al; Catherine Penns, of Detroit MI; brothers Lewis Purifoy, Winter Garden, Fl; Burl Purifoy Jr., Winter Garden; Willie Purifoy, Greenville, Al, Johnny Lee Puriofy, Greenville, Al; Robert Simpson Jr., Greenville, Al; William Simpson, Montgomery, Al; sisters-in-law, Ali William, Ollie Purifoy, Margaret Puriofy and Vonnie Lee Lawson, all of Greenville, Al; Lounell Simpson, Birmingham, Al; Mary Louise, Ind. Brothers-in-law Lester McQueen and Claud McQueen, both of Brooklyn, Al; Jesse James Buskey, Steve Jr. Buskey and Joseph Bradley, of Greenville, Al; one godson, ShaRon Mattocks, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
