The Greenville Parks and Recreation Department will host its first annual AHSAA Invitational Softball Tournament at the City of Greenville Softball Complex on Highway 10-West April 9.
The pool-play tournament will begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day with eight teams competing, including the Greenville High School Lady Tigers. The Championship Game is set 5 p.m.
Pool A will consist of Montgomery’s Jeff Davis Lady Vols, Luverne, Brewbaker Tech of Montgomery and T.R. Miller High School of Brewton. Greenville heads up Pool B along with Goshen, Clarke County and Paul Bryant High School of Tuscaloosa. Greenville will take on Goshen in one of the three opening games at 9 a.m.
“We are excited about hosting this event,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jerome Harris, Jr. “Fast pitch high softball is still growing in Alabama and we want to capitalize on that by putting on an annual event that brings quality teams to the Camellia City. Hopefully, in the future we can put two or three of these tournaments on each year for both of our local teams and teams from their respective high school associations.”
The culmination of the tournament will be the championship game which will feature the top two teams from each pool. There will be a 75 minute time-limit on each game (except the championship game) with no new inning starting after 70 minutes.
Concessions will be available on-site during the tournament. Admission is $6.
