Husband of Secretary of State passes away

James Chapman, husband of Secretary of State and Greenville native Beth Chapman, died on Tuesday of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham.

He was employed 17 years with Alabama Power Company and 10 years by Leo Ticheli Productions.

He graduated from West End High School and the University of Montevallo, served on the Shelby County Law Enforcement Personnel Board and volunteered for multiple charities. He was instrumental in his wife’s successful campaigns for State Auditor and Secretary of State.

Chapman was a Republican, a member of the NRA and National Society of Broadcast Engineers.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 6th from noon-2:00 at Metropolitan Church of God with the funeral beginning at 2:00. A graveside service will follow at Southern Heritage on Hwy. 119.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the James Chapman Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 224, Hoover, AL 35244 or they can be delivered to the church.
