Congressional redistricting hearing Friday at 7 p.m.

The Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment will conduct public hearings throughout the state to receive input from interested citizens and citizen groups on issues relating to redrawing congressional lines. The meeting will be held April 1 at Troy University Ballroom A, beginning at 7 p.m.

As a result of the 2010 decennial census, the Legislature is required to redraw congressional lines to comply with the one person, one vote requirement of the federal constitution, and the representation requirement of the state constitution.

The date, time and location of hearings are being publicized so citizens and citizen groups can attend and voice their views and concerns.  These hearings are intended to be forums for receiving public input on all issues affecting the redistricting process.  Comments are solicited on identification of communities of interest.
