Butler County will be participating in the 2011 “Don’t Drop It On Alabama” Spring Cleanup on April 16-23, according to local contact Charlene Powell.

This annual statewide cleanup is sponsored by Alabama PALS, or People Against a Littered State, which is a charitable organization whose mission statement is “Alabama communities working together for a clean and more beautiful Alabama.”

The title sponsor for the 2011 cleanups effort is Honda Manufacturing of Alabama. Other sponsors for the event include ALFA, ALDOT, Vulcan Materials Company and Alabama Farmer’s Cooperative.

PALS executive vice president, Spencer Ryan, stated that, “the support and stewardship that is shown from each of our corporate sponsors enables PALS to plan, coordinate and implement this annual cleanup effort. It is because of this support that we are able to provide each participating group the support and materials that are crucial to coordinating a successful cleanup effort.”

All participating groups received large bags, t-shirts, ad slicks, reporting forms and other support materials from Alabama PALS.

Powell said that they have already received the support materials but are still trying to figure out where to target their efforts.

“We are going to give it a shot and see what we can do,” Powell. “This program was attractive to us because we can choose anytime during that week to cleanup any area we want.”
