Key Club members Hollie Halford, Abby Blackmon, Reid Bowen and Garrett Hartley joined forces with the Kiwanis team of JoAnn Matthews, Susan Murphy, Carol Pope and Miriam Nixon in the recent Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) reading on February 22 to children in Greenville four Head Start classes at the Board of Education Building Complex. The Greenville Kiwanis adopted this project 17 years ago to encourage literacy development among children in Head Start. Each year Kiwanians make three visits to Head Start classes, reading and distributing to each student. Each child gets to take home a book after each reading to encourage family members to read to the children to help develop literacy. This year over 200 more books will be in the hands of these young children. Approximately 3,400 books have been distributed over the 16-year period.
