A third-quarter offensive spree helped the Lady Tigers triumph over Wilcox, 64-60.

Coach Jerome Harris III said that his girls played well.

“They came out and weathered the storm,” Harris said. “The girls are really coming around. They are buying into what we have been teaching.”

Lakeidra Savage came out hot, scoring 8 of the Tiger’s 13 first quarter points. The Jaguars answered with 13 of their own to knot the score at 13-13 going into the second.

Savage led the Tiger’s second quarter scoring again, but only converted on 2 of 8 free throws for a total of 6 points. Four other Tigers added points in the second to help steal the lead 28-26.

The Tigers started pulling away in the third. Savage, Zundrika Powell, Carlyshia Robinson and Kadeisha Cook all scored over 4 points, for a total of 23. After holding the Jaguars to 14 points, the Tigers enjoyed a healthy lead going into the fourth, 51-40.

Greenville couldn’t keep the offensive momentum going in to the final quarter and managed to put up 13 points. Wilcox attempted a comeback, but a 20-point quarter left the Jaguars short, 64-60.

Harris said he is excited with the girl’s progress so far, especially since he expects this progress to carry over into next season.

“We are growing up,” Harris said. “We will get almost all of them back next year. We are only losing one starter.”
