Hearing that alarm in downtown Greenville? Don’t worry, it’s a test.

Here’s the release from the city:

“If you were alarmed by the “General Alarm” going off this morning in downtown Greenville, you weren’t alone. The old general alarm at City Hall is now remotely connected to and part of the Severe Weather Alert System for Greenville.  The warning sirens, located at Bates House of Turkey and City Hall, are tested weekly on Wednesday mornings at approximately 9:30 a.m.  Additionally and more importantly, they are activated by E-911 when needed to alert the public of weather warnings in this area.

Previously City Hall’s alarm was manually activated by the Police Department’s dispatchers, but with the Police Department’s move to a new location it was necessary to incorporate City Hall’s general alarm into the E-911 operated weather alert system.”
