Beulah Lewis Thompson, 85, passed away on Dec. 30, 2011 from complications of dementia and Alzheimer’s at Crowne Health Care in Greenville. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.  Sat., Jan. 8, 2011, at First Missionary Baptist Church , Rev. R. F. McCreary officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery with Hudson Funeral Services directing.

She was born on Feb. 3, 1925 to the late Will and Beulah Lewis in Wilcox County, near Butler Springs and the Pine Flat Community. She was the fourth child of three siblings all of whom preceded her in death–Dempsey Lewis, Mattie Joe Shanklin and Katie Hilton.

She married the late Deacon Lee Frank Thompson on Nov. 10, 1940; to this union was born nine children, two preceding her in death-Mattie Pearl Thompson and Annie Ruth Steele.

Educated in the Butler County School System, she worked as a domestic for many years, her employers calling her “Bee.” While Miss Beulah participated in the labors of daily work, she also worked for the Lord Jesus Christ almost all her life-65-plus years.

She sang in the Senior Choir and served as its vice-president; she held the office of Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of Senior Mission of FMBC.

Miss Beulah often worked in the Union District Convention and was a devoted member of the Aberilla Chapter #170 Order of the Eastern Star and First Missionary Baptist Church.

She is remembered by her three sons, J.C. Thompson, Middland, Ga., James Edward Thompson, Atlanta, Ga., and Willie Frank Thompson, Greenville; four daughters, Marilyn (Herbert) Brown, Chicago, Sarah (Clarence) Jones, Birmingham, Beulah Dean Thompson and Kathle Thompson-Adams, Greenville. She also leaves to mourn her memory 23 grandchildren, which includes two devoted grandchildren, Veronica (Richard) Dorsey and Tracey Steele Scott; 29 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; two loving nieces, Valinda Lewis, Fort Worth, Texas, Dorothy J. Thompson, Greenville and devoted daughter-in-law Glennie R. Thompson, Chicago, Ill.; friends in Christ, Willie Mae Robinson, Mary Stewart, pastor and Sister McCreary, a neighbor, Ruby Shambray, along with a host of extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
