Julia Beasley, a lawyer with Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C., has filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the family of Laura Pullam, a paramedic who was killed Dec. 15 while on the job with Care Ambulance.

Pullam was working the scene of a vehicle accident on Interstate 65 in Montgomery County, when she was struck by a pick-up truck. The lawsuit is filed by Pullam’s mother, Mary W. Smith, on behalf of Pullam’s infant daughter.

The lawsuit alleges the defendant in the lawsuit was traveling at speeds too high for the existing weather and icy road conditions, and failed to slow his vehicle properly for emergency vehicles that were clearly visible ahead of him on the roadway. The Care Ambulance was properly displaying flashing emergency lights at the time Ms. Pullam was struck and killed. The complaint charges Negligence and wantonness on the part of the defendant.

“Personnel working these accident scenes, including law enforcement officers and medical personnel must be protected,” said Beasley.

The complaint (CV-2010-901628.00) was filed Dec. 28, 2010 in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Alabama. The case will be tried before a jury.
