Members of the Alabama Rural Action Commission, Region 5 Tourism Committee, chaired by State Representative Pebblin Warren,  D-Tuskegee, met for the unveiling of a white paper that discusses connecting rural tourism in Autauga, Bullock, Butler, Crenshaw, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Pike and Russell counties.

The white paper identified three significant issues within the region, (1) the lack of quality customer service, (2) No structured marketing tool to promote all of the counties within the region, and (3) Not being ready to take advantage of the film industry business.

The committee proposes to partner with colleges and universities and AIDT to put in place customer service training and take it to the business within the region; develop brochures representing the region, invest in co-op advertising on billboards, work with the ALDOT for better road signage, develop a Website show casing the tourism activities within the county; and also to develop a DVD with camera ready areas within the county and partner with the Alabama Film Office.
