Executive Vice President and General Manager Steve Harmon announces that Pioneer Electric Cooperative employees are donating $716 worth of holiday spirit to the Butler County Department of Human Resources’ Annual Community Christmas Program by their participation in the co-op’s Casual Day Fund. The check was presented to DHR officials Friday, December 10, 2010.

“It is heartening to know that even in these hard times, our employees donate a significant amount to give back to our community,” says Harmon. “They all voted last week to give the money to DHR after they read an article in the newspaper about the overwhelming need for donations.  I am happy that we are able to help this year and put smiles on the faces of deserving families and their children,” Harmon added.

Jennifer Dunkin and April Lowery, both social workers with the Butler Co. DHR accepted the donation.

“The “Casual Day” fund is a great way for companies to raise money for organizations like us throughout the year. It’s a creative and easier way than asking for a huge one time donation,” said Lowery.  “This money will help more than 25 children and we still have hundreds more that we need to buy either toys or clothing for,” added Dunkin.

Every Friday, Pioneer employees donate $2 to the Casual Day Fund to wear jeans to work. It’s a voluntary program that started last fall and this year the co-op’s employees have contributed $716 to the fund with the cooperative matching the donations.

The Butler County DHR will continue to take donations of toys, games, and children’s clothes in different size up until the week of Christmas. For more information about DHR’s Community Christmas Program, contact April Lowery or Lisa Butts at 382-4400.
