Barbara Smith Payne, age 58 , a resident of Fort Deposit, died  Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 10, 2010 at 2 PM from the Chapel of Harrison Funeral Home of Greenville, AL. with Reverend Michael Coleman Officiating. Interment followed in Sawyer Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Payne had worked in the banking industry for 30 years and was presently Compliance Officer of First Citizens Bank of Fort Deposit. She also served as President of Fort Deposit Chamber of Commerce for 2 years in 2008 and 2009. She was a graduate of Lanett High School of the Senior Class of 1970.

A visitation will be held Thursday from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.

Survivors include: husband, Dan R. Payne of Fort Deposit, daughter Stacey (Joe) Thomas of Tucson, Ariz., mother Faye Smith of Lanett, siste Patti Smith of Lanett, three grandchildren, Nathan Thomas, Benjamin Thomas, Leike Thomas, all of Tucson, Ariz.
Pallbearers for the service were: Darren Hammonds, Chuck Madaris, Daniel Hill, Tyler Ellis, Clay Nolan and Scott Taylor.
