Sheriff’s deputies will continue to rotate and serve as law enforcement for the town of McKenzie as the mayor and town council continue their search for a replacement for former police chief Clint Reaves.

The council is still taking applications for the position, while using five different Butler County sheriff’s deputies on rotation to patrol the streets and keep the peace, said town clerk Tina Powell at the December council meeting (Mayor Shufford was ill and unable to attend the meeting).

The council is also considering passing an ordinance on acceptable public attire, which would require pants to be worn at the waist and ban excessively revealing garments. A document has been drawn up and received the approval of town attorney Richard Hartley, but has not yet been formally adopted.
