Nearly $3,000 worth of County road equipment was vandalized over the weekend, and the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case.

The incident took place on Holland Bridge Road.

“The road department can verify that the equipment was in good shape on Oct. 22 at 4:30 p.m., which was the end of the shift,” said deputy Mason Adcock.

The crime was reported anonymously to 911.

Deputies responded to find that the two front windshields and the two side windows were knocked from a Caterpiller 140M Motorgrader and the instrument cluster was knocked out of a John Deere 650 Bulldozer.

The estimated damage to the front windshields is $1,000, while the side windshields will cost $800.

The instrument cluster is estimated at $900.

“I don’t understand the mentality of tearing something up, especially when it wastes the taxpayers’ money,” County Engineer Benjie Sanders told the County Commission on Monday.

The incident is still under investigation by the CCSO, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 335-6558, extension 239.
