As part of an activity-filled weekend for Greenville and Butler County, another Old Time Farm Day arrives at the site on Sandcutt Road Saturday, October 30.

The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., offers everything from mule plowing and cow milking to cotton-picking contests and, new for this year, a chicken chase for the youngsters.

Favorite activities for young and old such as the pedal tractor race and cakewalks will return, along with live demonstrations of farm life from days gone by including blacksmithing, cane syrup making, butter churning, quilting, basket weaving and much more.  The site also features a working gristmill, saw mill, hay bailing and an authentic cabin furnished in the manner of an old-time farm family.

“We really offer something for everyone to enjoy. Children get to see things they’ve only heard about before and for older adults, it brings back lots of good memories,” says OTFD president, Bill Campbell.

Concessions will be available from the OTFD kitchen, with plenty of places to “sit a spell” beneath the big pavilion.

Door prizes will be given away throughout the day, and several fundraising raffles are also planned.

Last year’s inclement weather had attendance figures down, but just in case of heavy rains this Saturday, a rain date of November 6 has been set.
