A burglary on Monday of a local pharmacy has police still searching for answers.

According to Medicine Shoppe pharmacist Frank Thigpen, the pharmacy was broken into sometime after 10:30 p.m. on Monday night.

“When I came into work on Tuesday, I saw that the door was open and the lock had been taken out,” Thigpen said.

He immediately called the authorities, in case any would-be thieves were still inside.

After police arrived, however, they found no one in the building. The phone lines had been cut and several bottles of pills were missing.

Thigpen said that generic Xanex, an anti-anxiety medicine, as well as bottles of Opana and Oxycotton, both painkillers, were missing.

“It doesn’t make much sense,” Thigpen said. “They were smart enough to cut the phone lines, but they left so much. And then they grabbed the filled prescriptions that hadn’t been picked up.”

These filled prescriptions, Thigpen said, had a variety of medicines, but most likely had very little street value.

Investigator with the Greenville Police Department Lt. Justin Lovvorn said the thief or thieves left evidence at the scene which has been sent to the lab for fingerprinting and processing.

“We are still following up on three or four leads that we think will lead us to the suspect,” Lovvorn said.

Since the phone lines were cut, the dial-out alarm did not alert authorities to the break-in. Lovvorn believes, however, that the audible alarm, which was left intact, may have scared the suspect or suspects away.
