Butler County Historical and Genealogical Society members, guests and visitors will get to meet “The Mysterious Mrs. Christian” during their quarterly meeting set for 2 p.m. Sunday, October 31 at Greenville City Hall.

“Our speaker, Jean Till Styles will be presenting a program about her great-great-great-grandmother who hailed from Forest Home, Mrs. Christian, who was the daughter and granddaughter of Revolutionary War soldiers,” says Barbara Middleton, president of the BCHGS.

Since the meeting’s date falls on the weekend designated for Butler County’s celebration of the Year of Small Towns and Downtowns in Alabama and the Great Greenville Homecoming, the BCHGS has is offering some extra special refreshments for the occasion. Desserts made from recipes in “A Taste of Butler County” Heirloom Pie Collection from the BCHGS’s 40th anniversary cookbook will be featured.

“We’ll have those great pies like your grandmother used to make: chess, pecan, buttermilk, sweet potato and more!” Annie Crenshaw, refreshments chair, said.

Visitors are also welcome to bring a favorite family pie recipe to share, Crenshaw said.
