After winning two in a row, the Highland Home Flying Squadron’s streak came to an end with a 68-19 loss to Elba on Friday night.

Head coach Tom Pinkston said that the Tigers were just the more athletic team and that the Squadron had trouble with Elba’s speed.

“They just ‘big-played’ us all night,” he said. “They beat us at the point of attack, and they have more speed than we do, so we couldn’t catch them once they broke the line of scrimmage.”

The Tigers lead 34-0 at the half, and the Squadron didn’t make any headway against the Elba defense until the second half.

John Dunn scored on a sweep from 10 yards out, and Kase Kelly had a hand in a couple of touchdowns.

Kelly snuck it in from two yards out, and he also connected with Raheem Berry for an 8-yard score.

“We moved the ball later in the game, but we couldn’t do anything early,” Pinkston said. “They put eight guys in the box and had more athleticism, so we had trouble making a dent.”

The loss drops the Squadron to 3-3 on the season.
