The “Not Double Down” Meal.

I headed to the Colonel’s today for some fried chicken. Before I go any further, no, I didn’t “double down”. Been there, done that, and I got the grease stains on my shirt to prove it.

Today I opted for the KFC Famous Bowl, which is in essence a combination of all the best things that Kentucky Fried Chicken offers. They start with a pile of potatoes, then they pour in corn, and bite-size pieces of the eleven herbs and spices chicken that has made KFC famous. Then its all topped with a heaping portion of gravy and two types of cheese.

I find that there are two types of eaters. There are those who don’t mind when their chicken hits their potatoes, or if their corn spills over into their potato wedges. These are what I call the “mixers.” Then there are those who feel as if the act of food touching on their plate would cause a catastrophic explosion the likes of which a fast-food restaurant has never seen. If you are one of the latter, I’d opt for a two piece dinner and keep your food separate. But if you are a mixer like me, the KFC famous bowl is a perfect marriage of taste and convenience.

Yes, convenience. It’s not usually something you look for in food, but when you are on the go as much as me, the simplicity of having one bowl and one eating utensil can’t be beat. They don’t skimp on any of the ingredients, so it’s not as if you get one bite of potatoes then a piece of chicken. Every single bite, down to the bottom of the bowl, had plenty of corn, chicken, cheese potatoes and gravy.
