Once a year, the Butler County Fairgrounds come alive with lights as the county welcomes the coming of the fair.

The Butler County Fair will start lighting up the sky next Wednesday and will run through Saturday.

This year’s lineup offers something for everyone, from arts and crafts to food to fun.

“We will have 19 commercial booths,” said Richard Branum, who helps organize the fair. “We will have community booths, like Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. We will also have all of the high schools, Chamber of Commerce, Safe Harbor and 4-H.”

Like any good fair, there will be both a livestock and a flower show. Container grown plants must be turned in on Monday from 2-5 p.m. and floral designs must be entered from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m on Tuesday.

The livestock barn will feature a myriad of animals including chickens, rabbits, goats, pigs, turkeys, pigeons and doves, Branum said.

The fair won’t officially get going until Wednesday, but there will be a lamb show at 6 p.m. Tuesday that will be free for all. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Fair patrons can ride any of the rides as much as they want with the purchase of a $12 armband. These bands are only good for one night, and cost $12 for Wednesday through Friday.

Saturday afternoon, the fair will open at 1 p.m., and armbands will be sold at a reduced price of $10.

Branum said every night would feature some sort of live entertainment.

“Wednesday, we will have a gospel group from Liberty Baptist Church performing,” Branum said. “On Thursday, we will have a southern rock night with a guitar trio featuring local musicians.”

On Friday, however, fairgoers can eat their share of fair food and catch their favorite game as well.

“They can listen to the ballgame, and still bring the kids to the fair,” Branum said.

The fair will wrap up Saturday night with live entertainment provided by “Killer Diller” Roscoe Miller at WKXN.
