The Hank Williams Museum in Georgiana.

In spite of the continued recession, the Hank Williams Boyhood Home and Museum is drawing in more tourist dollars.

Margaret Gaston, who operates the museum for the city, gave her annual report at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.

“We had sales totaling just over $24,000 between August 2009 and August 23, 2010—that is an increase of $5,590, a lot of which I think is due to allowing use of credit cards,” Gaston said.

Over $12,000 was taken in admissions, with 3,918 paying guests visiting the museum in the past year.

“And that doesn’t count all those festival attendees who visit us that weekend for free,” Gaston added.

There was a $625 increase in paid visitors for the year.

“I think those are good numbers . . . we are just going to keep truckin’ along and I have to say, we have some of the most interesting visitors,” Gaston said.

“We had a couple here today from British Colombia . . . they came a long, long way to visit us in Georgiana.”

Middleton thanked Gaston for her continued good work at the museum and echoed Gaston’s words about interesting visitors.

“We had a group here just recently who are filming a documentary on Hank for German television . . . so we do get all sorts of folks here in little Georgiana.”
