Have a heart for homeless animals? Want to make Butler County a healthier, safer, more humane place to live?

Then the Butler County Humane Society would like you to considering volunteering time to assist with their Trap-Neuter-Return Program.

Working with Alabama Animal Alliance of Montgomery, BCHS members are currently transporting plenty of feral cats living and breeding behind local homes and businesses to AAA to be spayed/neutered free of charge through a PetSmart Charities grant.

The demand has been tremendous for the service in the county and additional volunteers are needed to assist BCHS members.

“We need to have these cats spayed and neutered as quickly and steadily as possible, and we can only schedule their surgeries each week according to how many we trap/catch, whether we can get to Montgomery or not, and then house then for two days of recovery time after surgery,” says BCHS member Annie Crenshaw.

“So we are asking for help. Anyone who can transport cats to the clinic or house them for recovery after surgery, we want to hear from you. There are also young feral adult cats who are adoptable when socialized, not to mention adorable feral kittens in need of a good home,” Crenshaw said.

“If you would like to adopt an alley cat kitten or a sociable young adult, you will be doing another good deed to save pets in Butler County, I and Kandys Killough and I have adoptable kittens and cats of all ages, and there are some darling ones at the animal shelter as well–call and ask about them.”

For those unable to adopt an animal or assist directly with the TNR Program, there are still ways to help, Crenshaw says.

“All pet supplies are welcome as donations to our organization, including canned and dry pet food, newspapers, towels and bedding, food/water dishes, cat litter, pet toys, carrier crates and more. And of course, financial donations are welcome at any time,” Crenshaw said.
