Before it is even officially chartered, the new Georgiana Civitan Club is already working on its first community service project. A school supply drive for both students and teachers grades K-6 at Georgiana School is now underway.

Supplies will be accepted at the Dollar General Store in Georgiana between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, August 6 and 7.

Supply lists will be provided as a guide for supplies needed by the students at different grade levels. And, please, don’t forget the teachers, says Tami Awe, Georgiana team builder and president-elect of the Enterprise Civitan Club, the group sponsoring the new Georgiana club.

“Items like colorful stickers, pens, copying paper, art supplies and more will really be welcomed by the classroom teachers,” said Awe.

All the donated supplies will be presented to Georgiana School for distribution to students in need for use throughout the 2010-2011 school year.

“We appreciate the community’s support in this effort to help our kids and the over-worked, under-paid teachers out there, too,” Awe said.

The club, which is moving toward full-fledged chartership later this month, had 24 members as of Monday. Once there are 30 charter members, the club will receive $500 in seed money for special projects from Civitan International.
