The eighth annual Back-to-School Bash, scheduled for Friday, July 30, will feature a surprise guest speaker in Georgiana.

Former Florida State University defensive coordinator and Daleville native Mickey Andrews will attend, joining Auburn Tigers team chaplain Rev. Chette Williams on the stage.

Andrews, who retired in 2009, was one of the most respected defensive minds in college football, coordinating a defense that helped FSU win two National Championships in 1994 and 1999. He coached 17 All-Americans and 73 of his defensive players were selected to play in the NFL. He was a wide receiver and defensive back under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant at Alabama, winning two national titles in 1961 and 1964.

Williams has served as team chaplain at Auburn since 1999 and has authored a book, “Hard Fighting Soldier.” As a player he was a three-year letterman for the Tigers in the 1980s under former coach Pat Dye.

“We’re extremely excited to have both speakers,” said Allen Stephenson, pastor of First Baptist Church in Georgiana.

The Back-to-School Bash, sponsored by the Community Youth Association, annually draws hundreds of young athletes in Butler County and the surrounding area to Hank Williams Park in Georgiana. All county’s football teams, cheerleaders and coaches are invited to attend. The event starts at 6 p.m. Special music will be provided by the Christian group Foretold.
