Civitans International is coming to south Butler County. The Enterprise Civitans are helping launch a chapter of the worldwide, all-volunteer service organization in Georgiana.

“Byron Ward of the Georgiana City Council contacted us about these, and we are in process of getting things off the ground,” said Tami Awe of Civitans International. “We are an organization that fosters good citizenship and a sense of community among our participants.”

The group held its first organizational/recruitment meeting July 15 and will meet again this Thursday, July 22 at Calvary Baptist Church on Highway 106 in Georgiana.

Networking and socializing with refreshments begins at 5:30 p.m. at the church with the meeting getting underway at 5:45 p.m.

“We have an informational presentation on Civitans planned along with its role in the Georgiana area. Merrily Serota, field director with Civitan, will also give an informative media presentation,” Awe said.

Anyone interested in becoming a charter member of the Georgiana Civitan Club is encouraged to attend the Thursday meeting. Additional organizational meetings are set for July 29, August 5, 12 and 19, with a charter banquet set for August 26. Following the charter, the club is set to meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday.
