Montgomery will hold a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk for the American Cancer Society on October 9, and Butler County survivors and volunteers are encouraged to consider taking part in the Montgomery event.

“This is a non-mandatory, non-competitive event promoting cancer awareness and education,” said Jessica Garrard, the community representative for ACS in Butler County.

There is no registration fee or fundraising minimum, with walks ranging in distance from five kilometers to five miles.

“This event will take place at Huntingdon College and it’s only the second one held in the state,” Garrard said. “And it’s not just for ladies and girls. Men and boys also participate in these walk/runs to show their support for their moms, sisters, mothers, daughters and friends.”

A kick-off breakfast for the event is slated for 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m., August 18 at the Capitol City Club in the RSA Tower in downtown Montgomery.

Anyone interested in attending the kick-off meeting or participating in the October 9 event should contact Jessica Garrard at 334-612-8174 or via e-mail at jessicagarrard@cancer.org.
