Rotarians donate more than 6 k to charity

The Greenville Rotary Club gave more than $6,000 to benefit local, national and international projects during the past club year.

President William Johnson shared details of the organization’s charitable donations during Thursday’s regular meeting at Beeland Park.

“We gave a total of $6,361 to our Community/Civic Projects,” said Johnson.

Monies were donated to a number of programs, including: Camp ASCAA, Alabama’s Special Camp for Children and Adults, $100; Butler County Junior Miss Scholarship Program, $100; LBW Golf Tournament, $100;Wal-Mart Coats for Kids, $1,880; Greenville Area Arts Council, $100; First Steps Children’s Program, $250; Meredith’s Miracles, $50; Rotary International Polio Program, $680 and LBW Foundation, $2,000.

The Greenville Rotary Club holds an annual Christmas Tree Sale and this year, also held an Auburn/Alabama ticket raffle.

“We grossed a total of $7,500 on these fundraising activities and appreciate everyone’s work and support of these projects,” Johnson said.

The local Rotarians also annually provide dictionaries for elementary students in all public and private schools in the county.
