Billie Marie Blan Wells, 86, a resident of Greenville, Al., went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, July l, 2010 while at her home with her family. Billie was born Jan. 31, 1924 in Fort Smith, Ark. She later moved with her family to Mobile, Al. and while working at Brookley Field, she met the love of her life, B.G. Wells. They were married May 5, 1943, late relocating to New Orleans where their only child, daughter Carol, was born in 1950. They returned to Alabama in 1953 with plans to open a grocery store in Greenville. Billie and B.G. owned and operated B.G. Wells Grocery for 30 years. In 1983 B.G. decided to close the store and Billie was hired as secretary of First Baptist Church. Many times she made the comment that she could not believe they would hire her at her age! For 25 years Billie served FBC in the secretarial position. She had the special gift of handling any and all situations, large or small, difficult or simple, anytime. She handled these with such diplomatic poise and gracefulness. Billie was also known as the “FBC telephone directory”… she knew most every church members phone number by memory and people would call her to ask for someone’s number!!  Billie was preceded in death by her husband B.G. Wells. Survivors include: Daughter and Son in Law: Carol and Larry Davenport, Georgiana, Al.; Grand Daughter and Grand Son in Law: Jessica and Ben Howell, Deatsville, Al., Grand Son, Wesley Davenport, Georgiana, Al.; Great Grand Sons: Benton and Carson Howell, Deatsville, Al. Sisters in Law: Mrs. Lamar Blan, Mobile, Al., Maria Blan,  Orange Beach, Al., Rosie Wells, Birmingham, Al. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 from the First Baptist Church Greenville with Rev. Paul McLendon and Rev. Tim Patton officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana, Al. directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.
