Colonel David E. Jones has retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving for 24 years.

Jones was recognized at a ceremony held at the Women’s memorial in Arlington, Virginia and was officiated by Brigadier General H.D. Polumbo, Jr.

Jones graduated from Greenville High in 1981 and went on to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management from Auburn University. He attended Squadron Officer School at Maxwell Air Force Base in 1991, and in 2000, he attended Air Command and Staff College, also at Maxwell AFB.

Jones would continue to further his military education, obtaining a Masters’ in Aeronautical Science from Emory Riddle University in Daytona, Florida and a Masters’ in Strategic Studies from Air War College at Maxwell AFB.

During his 24-year career, Jones received the following decorations: Legion of Merit Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal with one oak cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Southeast Asia Service Medal with one oak cluster, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and Kuwait Liberation Medal.

His final assignment was serving as Chief Aviation Integration Division Directorate of Air Operations at the Air Force Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Jones is the son of Nancy Jones and the late Elton Jones.
